Police Arrest Carjacker Who Beat Victim With Chunk of Asphalt While Relaxing on Beach in Asbury Park

ASBURY PARK, NJ – Police in Asbury Park have arrested a Newark man who was wanted for a brutal carjacking that took place in Clifton on August 20th. According to the Clifton Police Department, the man used a chunk of asphalt to beat his victim before stealing their car and fleeing last week.

Zahir Christmas, 37, a fugitive wanted for attempted murder was arrested in Asbury Park while relaxing on the beach there.

The victim, a 27 year old resident of Rockland County was beaten unconscious with a piece of asphalt and left it in a wooded area off of Broad Street in Clifton.

“This incident involved the victim being beaten unconscious with a piece of asphalt and left in a wooded area off of Broad Street,” Clifton Police said. “The victim’s personal belongings along with his vehicle were then stolen. “

The victim was later found by a Clifton patrol unit wandering around the area of Broad St and Allwood Rd with very serious injuries. The suspect was later identified after an investigation conducted by Clifton detectives.
