WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange Police Department has urged community members to exercise additional vigilance in securing their homes and vehicles following an increase in motor vehicle thefts and home burglaries across the state.
Last week, WOPD reported a string of similar incidents. On May 29, unidentified actors gained entry to a residence on Eagle Rock Avenue via an unlocked and partially opened window at approximately 3:30 a.m., proceeding to steal a 2019 Audi Q8 using located keys.
On May 25, actors accessed a Fairmount Terrace residence through a rear door, finding a BMW 530 key fob on the living room sofa and then stealing the vehicle.
In the past six months, WOPD has investigated eight additional incidents involving forced or unauthorized entries into residences, primarily targeting high-end luxury vehicles. The police department continues to tackle this problem and encourages residents to report suspicious activities.
