Man arrested in Potsdam on charges tied to child sexual abuse material investigation
Potsdam, NY – A 59-year-old Potsdam resident was taken into custody after a coordinated investigation led authorities to file multiple charges related to the possession and promotion of child sexual abuse material.
Investigators from the New York State Police Troop B Computer Crime Unit, working with Homeland Security Investigations and the Potsdam Police Department, arrested Alexander M. Schreiber on Wednesday following an inquiry that uncovered evidence linked to several CSAM offenses.
Schreiber has been charged with one count of promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, one count of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child, and one count of possessing a sexual performance by a child. All charges fall under New York Penal Law §263. He was arraigned in Potsdam Town Court and remanded to the Saint Lawrence County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
Officials said the investigation remains active and is being handled jointly by state, federal, and local agencies. Authorities did not release additional details on the scope of the investigation or whether further arrests are anticipated.
