Queens da's office and nypd seize 176 illegal scooters in crime reduction effort

Queens, NY – In a major crackdown on the illegal use of scooters linked to violent crimes, the Queens District Attorney’s Office, in partnership with the NYPD, has confiscated 176 scooters over the past week.

District Attorney Katz highlighted the role of unregistered scooters in drive-by shootings and robberies, stating that nearly 200 illegal vehicles have been removed from the streets through joint enforcement efforts. The goal is to curb the violence associated with these vehicles. NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban emphasized the collaboration’s impact on improving public safety and quality of life in New York City.

The seizures took place during three operations targeting 18 locations in Woodside and Long Island City, with a focus on scooters that were illegally parked, unregistered, or uninsured. The DA’s office and NYPD plan to continue these operations to eliminate the threat posed by illegal motorbikes in Queens communities.
