QUEENS, NY — A Flushing man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the brutal 2021 murder and sexual assault of a 29-year-old woman, whom he attempted to conceal after the crime.

Quiming Wan, 55, was convicted in October on charges including second-degree murder, aggravated sexual abuse, and tampering with physical evidence in connection to the death of Jiaomei Zhou. Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise handed down the sentence following the jury’s decision.

According to trial testimony, police responded to Wan’s apartment on Main Street on the night of November 1, 2021, after residents stopped him in the lobby while he attempted to remove Zhou’s lifeless body from his apartment. Zhou, who was found unresponsive with blood on her clothing, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A search of Wan’s apartment uncovered extensive evidence linking him to the crime, including blood on doorframes, walls, and furniture, as well as bloody rags and clothing concealed in a closet. Investigators also found Wan with blood on his body and clothing at the time of his arrest.

An autopsy revealed that Zhou’s death was caused by blunt force trauma resulting from repeated assaults with a blunt object, which caused severe internal injuries.

District Attorney Melinda Katz described the crime as “incredibly brutal,” adding, “A dangerous person will now be sent to prison… I hope this sentence provides some solace to the victim’s loved ones as they continue to grieve her loss.”
