Germantown man wins $30,000 in FAST PLAY Keno after four prize checks
GERMANTOWN, MD – A trip to buy scratch-offs turned into a $30,000 surprise for a Montgomery County man who needed four different confirmations before he finally believed he’d hit a top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s FAST PLAY Keno Edition game.
The retired IT worker was at Wisteria Beer and Wine with his daughter last week when he was persuaded by the cashier to try something new. Instead of his usual scratch-off tickets, he purchased a $3 FAST PLAY Keno Edition ticket—and unknowingly walked away a winner.
After glancing over the ticket, he wasn’t convinced he’d won anything. His daughter scanned it later, revealing a $30,000 prize. Still skeptical, the man showed it to his wife for a third opinion.
Even then, he wasn’t convinced. It wasn’t until he returned to the store to have the ticket officially verified that he accepted the win. He finally claimed the prize on Wednesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, with his daughter by his side.
The Germantown resident, a father of three, said he plans to save part of the money and share some with his family. The retailer, Wisteria Beer and Wine at 13220 Wisteria Drive, will receive a $300 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
According to the Maryland Lottery, eight more $30,000 top prizes remain in the FAST PLAY Keno Edition game, along with thousands of lower-tier prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
