OAKLAND, N.J. – Construction crews are expected to begin work this week on the Borough of Oakland 2026 Road Resurfacing Program, launching a series of roadway and infrastructure improvements that will affect traffic and parking in parts of the Bergen County community.

According to the Oakland Police Department, construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 10, weather permitting.

The project includes curb reconstruction, ADA-compliant curb ramp improvements, and drainage upgrades before streets are resurfaced.

Parking restrictions and traffic changes expected

Borough officials said on-street parking will be prohibited on roadways where construction is taking place.

Residents are being asked to remove all vehicles from affected streets by 7 a.m. on any day “No Parking” signs are posted to avoid delays and allow crews to complete the work efficiently.

While driveway access is expected to remain available throughout most of the project, officials said temporary access restrictions may become necessary during certain phases of construction.

“If temporary access restrictions become necessary, affected residents will be notified in advance,” the borough said. “Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience and complete the work as efficiently as possible.”

Police officers will be assigned to assist with traffic control, and detours will be established where needed.

Road resurfacing projects are typically completed during the warmer months when paving conditions are most favorable. In addition to providing smoother roadways, the improvements are designed to extend pavement life, improve stormwater drainage, and bring intersections into compliance with federal accessibility standards through upgraded ADA curb ramps.

Motorists traveling through Oakland are encouraged to allow extra travel time, obey posted detours and temporary parking restrictions, and follow directions from police officers and traffic control personnel while work is underway.
