Frederick retiree wins $100,000 on $50 scratch-off ticket at Royal Farms

Baltimore, MD – A retired woman from Frederick County is celebrating a $100,000 payday after hitting big on a $5,000,000 Fortune scratch-off ticket, purchased at a Royal Farms store in Frederick.

The longtime Maryland Lottery player claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Tuesday after scoring the six-figure win on the $50 scratch-off. Her win marks one of the top-tier prizes in the high-stakes Fortune game, which continues to attract attention from players statewide.

She bought the winning ticket at the Royal Farms located at 6730 English Muffin Way. After scratching off several non-winning tickets, she decided to try one more—and that last-minute choice delivered.

The retired player scanned her ticket at a self-service kiosk and received a message instructing her to visit Lottery headquarters. She immediately shared the news with her husband, who urged her to sign the ticket and secure the win.

Before this win, her largest prize had been $500 on a Ravens-themed scratch-off. Now, with $100,000 in hand, she plans to use part of the prize to take a vacation in celebration of her upcoming 35th wedding anniversary. The rest will go toward retirement savings.

The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The $5,000,000 Fortune game still has multiple large prizes remaining, including a $5 million top prize.
