Baltimore, MD – A retired registered nurse from Salisbury has claimed her second major Maryland Lottery win, this time taking home a $100,000 top prize on the $100,000 Crossword 8th Edition scratch-off.
The winner, who traveled to Baltimore on Tuesday to collect her prize, previously won $10,000 more than a decade ago. Both prizes came from her favorite style of tickets: crossword and bingo scratch-offs.
“I love the bingo and crosswords. That’s what I won on both times,” she said.
She purchased her winning ticket at the Ocean Stop Valero station on Ocean Gateway in Hebron, which she calls her go-to spot for scratch-offs because “he has the best selection.” The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
The prize came after she noticed the launch of the $100,000 Crossword 9th Edition in August but opted to pick up one of the remaining 8th edition tickets. She discovered the win later that evening after finishing errands.
For her, scratching tickets is more than just playing — it’s a form of relaxation.
“Scratching my tickets is my calm relaxation when I get home,” she said.
The longtime lottery enthusiast said she treats scratch-offs as a hobby, budgeting “fun money” to buy tickets and carefully tracking odds and prize updates on the Maryland Lottery’s website.
“I don’t travel. I don’t buy luxury goods. I don’t need a new car,” she said. “I have everything I want. I’ve got no plans. I’m just going to enjoy it.”
