Holmdel, NJ – A serious motor vehicle accident occurred on Holmdel Road near Longview Drive on June 3, 2025, at approximately 4:25 p.m., resulting in significant injuries and traffic disruptions, according to the Holmdel Township Police Department.

Patrolman Joseph Disko, while on routine patrol, discovered the crash involving a 2021 Jeep driven by George Vellios, 56, of Holmdel. Preliminary investigations indicate that Vellios, traveling southbound, veered into the northbound lane, left the roadway, and collided with a tree. The impact trapped Vellios inside the vehicle, requiring extrication by the Holmdel Fire Department. He was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center by Monmouth County Sheriff EMS – Medstar with serious injuries.

The crash led to the closure of Holmdel Road for approximately two hours, causing significant traffic delays in the area.

Following the investigation, Vellios faces multiple charges, including Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Reckless Driving, and Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle.

The Holmdel Township Police Department continues to investigate the incident and urges anyone with additional information to contact them.
