Man walks up to police and admits to shooting on North High Street

Columbus, OH – A man was arrested Monday evening after allegedly shooting someone on North High Street, then approaching officers at the scene and admitting to being the gunman, police said.

At approximately 6:13 p.m. on November 17, Columbus police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1100 block of N High St. When officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The individual was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive.

As officers were securing the scene, the suspect voluntarily approached and identified himself as the shooter. He was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Dejai Preston Jr. He has been charged with Felonious Assault. Police have not disclosed the circumstances of the shooting or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.

The investigation remains ongoing.
