Philadelphia police and the Medical Examiner's Office are investigating after skeletal human remains were discovered Tuesday evening in a wooded area near Knights Road.

Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating after skeletal human remains were found Tuesday evening in a wooded area in Northeast Philadelphia.

Officers responded at approximately 7 p.m. to the area near the 12000 block of Knights Road, where the remains of an adult were discovered in a wooded area.

At this stage of the investigation, authorities have not determined the race or gender of the deceased.

Medical Examiner working to identify remains

The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office, which will work to determine the identity of the deceased as well as the cause and manner of death.

Police have not released additional details about how the remains were discovered or how long they may have been at the location.

Investigators have not announced whether foul play is suspected, and no further information was immediately available as the investigation continues.
