TRENTON, NJ – Rain and mild air will give way to a sharp chill across New Jersey by midweek, followed by a cold, breezy stretch and a chance for light snow as the weekend approaches.

Forecasters expect rain to develop late today, mainly after 4 p.m., with temperatures topping out near 46 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.

By tonight, the rain will taper off before 8 p.m., skies will gradually clear, and temperatures will drop sharply to around 29 degrees as a cold front moves through.

Sharp drop in temperatures Thursday

Thursday will feel much colder, with highs only reaching the mid-30s. Strong west winds gusting up to 30 mph will make it feel even colder throughout the day.

Thursday night will stay mostly clear and breezy, with temperatures falling to the mid-20s as the cold air deepens.

Light snow possible Friday night and late Saturday

Friday will be partly sunny but still brisk, with highs near 37. Clouds increase Friday night, bringing a 40 percent chance of snow as another weak system moves in from the west.

Saturday looks partly sunny with highs around 40, but another round of light snow is possible after midnight, continuing into early Sunday.

Arctic air arrives to end the weekend

Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 35, followed by another blast of Arctic air Sunday night when lows are expected to plummet to around 16.
