Stabbing suspect charged with murder of 80-year-old NYC man inside Washington Heights apartment

NEW YORK, NY – A 45-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after police say an 80-year-old man was found stabbed to death early Monday morning inside an apartment on Overlook Terrace in Washington Heights.

Police identified the suspect as Alon Riabichev, of 37 Overlook Terrace, where the incident occurred.

Officers responding to a 911 call around 3:15 a.m. discovered the victim, identified as Lev Vayner, with stab wounds to the neck and abdomen.

Emergency Medical Services pronounced Vayner dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

Detectives remain on-site as the investigation continues, and charges against Riabichev are pending arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.
