State police seek public's help in fatal hit-and-run on State Highway 55

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The New Jersey State Police are seeking assistance from the public in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Sunday afternoon on State Highway 55 in Gloucester County.

The incident took place near milepost 39.2, in Franklin Township, at approximately 3:53 p.m.

This comes days after a deadly crash killed two on the same highway in South Jersey.

According to investigators, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle lost control while traveling on the on-ramp from Route 40 eastbound to State Highway 55 southbound. The motorcycle veered left, struck a curb, and entered the southbound lane, where the rider was ejected and struck by an unknown vehicle with at least one set of tandem tires.

The victim, identified as 62-year-old William Baldwin of Newfield, sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the unknown vehicle fled the scene before authorities arrived.

The New Jersey State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information regarding the events before or after the collision to contact Troop “A” Bellmawr Station at 856-933-0662.
