CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — Police have arrested a man accused of fatally shooting a convenience store employee outside a business on Wednesday in the 6700 block of Walker Mill Road, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Geonte McNeil-Williams of Upper Marlboro, is charged with murdering 31-year-old Rakib Rakib of Temple Hills. Authorities say the victim, an employee of the convenience store, was outside taking out the trash when McNeil-Williams approached him, demanded his property, and shot him.

Officers responding to the scene at approximately 3:00 p.m. found Rakib suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives do not believe the victim and suspect knew each other.

Using investigative techniques, detectives identified McNeil-Williams as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. He was taken into custody Thursday morning and is being held at the Department of Corrections.

McNeil-Williams faces charges of first- and second-degree murder, along with related offenses. The case remains under investigation as police work to determine additional details about the shooting.
