DC arrests three in cold case murder after nearly two-year investigation
Washington, DC – It took nearly two years, but three men now face first-degree murder charges in the 2024 shooting death of Malik Gliss, who was found fatally wounded inside a Southeast DC apartment in broad daylight.
On a quiet Thursday afternoon in January of last year, first responders rushed to the 3500 block of 6th Street SE after a call came in about an unconscious man. Inside the unit, officers discovered 31-year-old Malik Gliss, dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. What followed was a lengthy investigation that spanned neighborhoods and jurisdictions.
This Wednesday, police announced that three suspects — Steven Metts, 20, of Southeast DC; Keondre Carroll, 22, also of Southeast; and Jovontae Wallace, 21, of District Heights, Maryland — have been formally charged with First Degree Murder While Armed. All three were already in custody at the DC Jail on unrelated charges when the new warrants were served.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Unit carried out the booking orders, acting on a directive from the DC Superior Court. The suspects were not released following the charges and remain held by the DC Department of Corrections.
Gliss’s death marked another fatal shooting in a string of violence that hit the Southeast corridor early last year. No motive for the killing has been publicly disclosed, and authorities have not revealed whether the suspects knew the victim.
Prosecutors have not yet stated whether additional charges or suspects are expected as the investigation continues.
