TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Toms River Recreation is giving local students the chance to step into the shoes of detectives next month with a two-day Crime Scene Investigation program scheduled during the NJEA Teachers Convention break.

The hands-on camp, created in partnership with National CSI Camp, will run November 6 and 7 for students in grades 5 through 12.

The full-day sessions, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., cost $200 for the two-day program and will be led by current and former law enforcement detectives.

Program offers real-world detective training

Participants will learn skills used by real investigators, including how to lift fingerprints, analyze blood spatter and trajectory patterns, conduct witness interviews, and cast footprints. The program aims to introduce students to the science and critical thinking involved in criminal investigations.

Experienced instructors to lead sessions

According to township officials, all instructors are either active or retired law enforcement professionals with field experience in forensic investigation and crime scene analysis. Students will work through mock cases and use lab-based techniques to process simulated crime scenes.
