CARTERET, N.J. — New Jersey State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a red pickup truck who may have witnessed a serious crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Middlesex County last September.

The incident happened on Sept. 21, 2024, when troopers from Troop “D” Cranbury Station responded to a collision at milepost 95.9 in the northbound outer lanes of the Turnpike. Authorities said one vehicle was struck during the crash and flipped, leaving its driver with serious injuries.

Preliminary findings suggest that several vehicles were racing prior to the collision, and one of those vehicles hit the victim’s car. Investigators are now trying to piece together the moments leading to the wreck.

Red pickup may hold key evidence

Witnesses reported seeing a red pickup truck at the scene that may have captured the incident on video. However, police say the driver left the area before troopers could speak with them.

Detectives from the Cranbury Station are trying to locate the driver of the truck to gather possible footage and details. Authorities have not released a description beyond the color and type of vehicle.

The State Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or events leading to it, or who may have video evidence, to contact the Troop “D” Cranbury Station Detective Bureau.

Police have not confirmed if any arrests have been made in connection with the racing vehicles.
