Two airlifted after jeep overturns in manchester township crash

MANCHESTER, N.J. — Two people were airlifted to a trauma center Sunday night after a Jeep overturned in a two-car crash at the intersection of Broadway Boulevard and Burnside Street, Manchester Township Police said.

The collision occurred around 8:38 p.m. when a blue 2021 Jeep Cherokee traveling south on Burnside Street failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a gray 2015 Toyota Camry heading east on Broadway Boulevard, according to investigators.

The impact caused the Jeep to overturn and come to rest on its passenger side on the front lawn of a residence in the 1400 block of Broadway Boulevard. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as 23-year-old Briana Rodriguez of Brick, N.J., and the passenger as 21-year-old Anthony Fernandez, also of Brick. Both were extricated by emergency personnel and flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter. They are currently listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Toyota, 38-year-old Jun-Jun Zheng of Toms River, was not injured.

Emergency responders from Manchester Fire Company, Ridgeway Fire Company, and several EMS units assisted at the scene. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the Jeep’s failure to stop at the intersection was the primary cause of the crash.
