Deputies say a probationer was arrested after they found him asleep behind the wheel with alleged drugs, a weapon and drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle.
STAFFORD, Va. — A man found asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle outside a Stafford County McDonald’s is facing multiple charges after deputies said they discovered suspected drugs, a weapon and drug paraphernalia during their investigation.
The incident occurred at about 9:17 a.m. Thursday at 419 Chatham Heights Road.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to a report of a person asleep on the steering wheel of a vehicle in the restaurant’s parking lot.
When the deputy made contact with the driver, investigators said the man displayed signs of impairment, including a drowsy demeanor and unsteady balance.
Deputies also reported seeing drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
The driver, identified as 46-year-old Daryl Claiborne of Bowling Green, allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tests.
During the investigation, deputies said they recovered a weapon, suspected narcotics and other items from the vehicle.
Authorities also determined Claiborne was on probation, resulting in additional charges.
Claiborne was charged with:
- Possession of a weapon by a felon
- Driving under the influence
- Possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance
He was booked into the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held on a secured bond.
