Virginia State Police are investigating a dramatic multi-vehicle crash that occurred early Monday morning inside the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

According to investigators, the crash happened at approximately 4:38 a.m. on May 25, 2026, along Interstate 64 eastbound inside the HRBT.

Preliminary findings indicate a Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with an SUV and a box truck inside the tunnel.

Police said the impact caused the Charger to go airborne before it landed and burst into flames.

Driver Hospitalized, Charged With Reckless Driving

Authorities said the driver of the Dodge Charger suffered injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Virginia State Police confirmed the driver has been charged with reckless driving.

No additional injuries were immediately reported.
