Officials said 37-year-old Joshua Fitzpatrick had been convicted in Virginia and later allowed to transfer probation supervision to Horry County, South Carolina for work.

He was then granted permission to travel to Pennsylvania as part of his employment, according to authorities.

Probation officials in South Carolina notified Allegheny County this week that Fitzpatrick was in violation of the conditions of his suspended sentence and was believed to be staying at a hotel in the region.

Investigators arrived at the hotel shortly before 6:30 a.m., where they confirmed Fitzpatrick’s presence.

He was taken into custody without incident as detectives executed the out-of-state warrant.

Extradition process underway

Fitzpatrick was transported to the Allegheny County Jail, where he will remain while awaiting extradition back to Virginia.

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced the arrest and said the investigation moved quickly once the information from South Carolina probation officials was received.
