NEWARK, DE – A Wilmington man has been arrested in connection with a late-night robbery outside a Royal Farms convenience store, Delaware State Police announced Tuesday.

The incident occurred just before midnight on October 4 at the Royal Farms located on Stanton Christiana Road.

Troopers say 45-year-old Tony Hammond approached a woman sitting outside the business, assaulted her, and took her belongings before fleeing on foot.

Investigators later determined that the victim personally knew the suspect, leading detectives to quickly identify Hammond and secure a warrant for his arrest.

Suspect taken into custody without incident

On October 7, troopers located and arrested Hammond before transporting him to Troop 2 for processing. He was charged with Robbery 2nd Degree, a felony under Delaware law.

Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 2, Hammond was released on his own recognizance pending further court proceedings.

Victim not seriously injured

Police reported that the woman suffered minor injuries in the assault but did not require hospitalization. Detectives continue to review surveillance footage and witness statements as part of the ongoing case.

The Delaware State Police remind residents to remain alert in public areas and to report suspicious activity promptly.
