NEWARK, Del. — A Wilmington man is facing felony charges after allegedly striking a pedestrian with his vehicle and fleeing the scene in Newark on October 27. Authorities identified the driver as 22-year-old Roger Brown, who now faces charges including vehicular assault, leaving the scene of a collision, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, in this case, the vehicle used in the incident.

The incident occurred around 12:34 a.m. in the 100-block of East Main Street, where a Newark police officer observed a vehicle spinning its tires and creating smoke on the roadway. The driver, later identified as Brown, then accelerated westbound at a high rate of speed. The officer activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but Brown allegedly turned onto Academy Street, where he struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk at East Main Street before fleeing the scene.

Initially, the pedestrian declined medical treatment but was later found to have sustained serious injuries from the collision.

Following an investigation, Newark Police obtained an arrest warrant for Brown on October 31. Justice of the Peace Court #2 charged Brown with multiple offenses, including possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, disregarding a police officer’s signal, vehicular assault in the second degree, and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury, along with several other traffic violations.

Brown remains wanted on these charges as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the hit-and-run.
