Woman wins $50K on break at Royal Farms in Maryland

Eastern Shore woman wins $50K scratch-off prize and plans to buy new car

PRINCESS ANNE, MD — A Somerset County woman turned a casual stop at a Royal Farms store into a $50,000 payday after purchasing a $10 Double Your Money scratch-off ticket that revealed 20 matching numbers totaling the game’s second-tier prize.

The lucky winner, who visited the Royal Farms at 30452 Mt. Vernon Road in Princess Anne, scratched the ticket while still inside the store. With amounts ranging from $500 to $10,000, the total came out to $50,000. Despite the huge win, she remained calm and did not reveal her good fortune until later.

She claimed the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on Tuesday and told officials that she plans to use the winnings to buy a new car. The winner, a local retail worker, enjoys spending her time cooking and sewing when not on the job.

The Double Your Money scratch-off was launched in July and remains in circulation. According to the Maryland Lottery, the game still has nine $100,000 top prizes and one more $50,000 prize remaining, along with hundreds of thousands of smaller cash awards.

For selling the winning ticket, Royal Farms did not receive a bonus as scratch-off prizes do not generate retailer commissions unless otherwise specified.
