Wyckoff unveils new emergency services unit truck funded entirely by grants

WYCKOFF, NJ – Residents may have noticed a new addition to the Wyckoff Police Department fleet as the agency rolled out a fully equipped Emergency Services Unit truck now on local roads.

The department announced the new vehicle this week, noting that it was purchased entirely through a combination of public and private grants.

Officials emphasized that the acquisition came at no additional cost to township taxpayers.

Specialized unit trained for complex emergencies

Police said the Emergency Services Unit is staffed by officers trained to handle a wide range of specialty incidents, including search and rescue operations, tactical responses, and hazardous conditions. The new truck carries equipment to assist in each of these situations, allowing officers to respond rapidly and safely.

The department highlighted that ESU officers undergo monthly training to maintain readiness and ensure the highest level of service to the Wyckoff community.

Commitment to preparedness and efficiency

The vehicle’s unveiling reflects the department’s focus on preparedness without increasing financial burdens for residents. Officials said the unit’s resources will enhance response capabilities during large-scale incidents while integrating with county and state emergency services when needed.

The Wyckoff Police Department is pleased to announce the establishment of a new operational unit within the Patrol Division, known as the Emergency Services Unit (ESU). This unit is comprised of 11 patrol officers who have received advanced training to provide lifesaving tactical and rescue services to the community.

Over the past twelve months, members of the ESU have been selectively trained and certified in SWAT operations, crisis negotiations, forcible entry, drone operations, water and flood rescue, rope and winch operations, and various other specialized skill sets. The addition of these highly trained officers, available on a 24/7 basis, will significantly enhance our department’s capability to respond swiftly and effectively to any tactical or specialty incident.

The Wyckoff Police Department would also like to inform residents that all training and specialized equipment for this unit were funded entirely through public and private grants, resulting in no additional cost to taxpayers. Thank you to the Wyckoff Township Committee for your continued support.
