Young woman shot dead in Southeast DC during Saturday night gunfire
Washington, DC – A 22-year-old woman was shot and killed Saturday night on a residential block in Southeast DC, after neighbors reported hearing a series of gunshots just after sunset.
At approximately 8:33 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 3300 block of 14th Place SE following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found an adult female lying unconscious and unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.
DC Fire and EMS arrived on scene and determined the woman showed no signs of life. She was pronounced dead where she was found.
The victim has been identified as Jayla Vaden, 22, of Southeast DC.
Police have not released details on a possible motive or suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking for assistance from the public as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Crime scene tape remained up into the night as detectives canvassed the area for evidence and potential witnesses. Residents nearby reported hearing a rapid burst of shots but said they did not see the shooter.
