COLLIER COUNTY, FL — An 11-year-old student at Manatee Elementary School is facing criminal charges after bringing a box cutter knife to school and threatening another student with it.
The incident, which occurred in the school cafeteria, involved the student approaching a peer from behind and poking them in the neck with the knife while making a threat. The victim reported the incident to school administrators, who immediately contacted the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Detectives conducted interviews with both students, and the school’s security footage, reviewed by detectives and the school’s Youth Relations Deputy, confirmed the victim’s account.
Upon investigation, the Youth Relations Deputy discovered the box cutter concealed in the student’s waistband. The student has been taken into custody and is charged with possession of a weapon on school property and aggravated battery.
This incident highlights the importance of school safety measures and the prompt response of school administrators and law enforcement in addressing such serious situations. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office and the school are working together to ensure the continued safety of students and staff.
