16-Year-Old Arrested for Armed Carjacking of Elderly Woman

CHICAGO, IL – A 16-year-old male juvenile faces serious charges following an incident involving vehicular hijacking and reckless conduct in Chicago.

The juvenile was arrested on December 27 at 1:37 p.m. in the 700 block of W. 81st Street. He is accused of hijacking a vehicle at gunpoint from a 78-year-old woman.

Police arrested the teen 12 minutes after the incident. The incident occurred in the 7600 block of S. Eggleston Avenue, within the 6th District.

Charges against the young offender include one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon and one misdemeanor count of reckless conduct.

The juvenile detention hearing is scheduled to take place at 1100 S. Hamilton on December 28.

No further details about the circumstances of the hijacking or the condition of the victim have been released at this time. The Chicago Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident.
