19-year-old dies after Wilmington shooting; police investigating

WILMINGTON, Del. — A 19-year-old man has died after being shot in Wilmington on Wednesday, and the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is investigating, authorities said.

The shooting occurred on February 19 at approximately 4:29 p.m. in the area of East Lea Boulevard and Philadelphia Pike. Troopers responded to the scene and found Jamarr Thompson, of Wilmington, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers performed life-saving measures before EMS transported Thompson to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Thompson succumbed to his injuries on February 21, police said.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Authorities have not released information about a suspect or motive.
