Flags At Half Staff for Fallen Officer

The governor’s office on Saturday ordered flags flown at half staff at all state buildings following the tragic death of a Jackson Township native and Port Authority officer.

Officer Earmonn Mautone died just over a week ago following a car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. He was off-duty at the time of the crash, and weather is believed to have been a factor.

Mautone, who was 25, had been with the Port Authority for less than a year, and was assigned to the agency’s World Trade Center patrol.

Governor Chris Christie said in a release, “Officer Mautone was a loving son, and brother, whose memory will live in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow members of the Port Authority Police.

“Officer Mautone served his state and the State of New York with courage, professionalism, and commitment to the finest ideals and traditions of the Port Authority Police Department.

“It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Officer Mautone, and we extend our sincerest sympathy to his family, friends, and fellow members of the Port Authority Police.”
