HS WRESTLING: Shawnee Upsets Toms River South 36-31

The sixth-seeded Shawnee High School wrestling team had three pins Monday as it defeated third-seeded Toms River South, 36-31, in the first round of the NJSIAA Group 4 South Tournament.

Drew Werosta, Mark Gross and Matt Higgins had pins for the Renegades. Isaiah Bryant won by forfeit at 160 pounds and Shawnee won four matches by decision.

Marques Alexander won a 14-6 major decision over Drew Lapinski at 182 pounds and Zach Martin won a 7-4 decision over Griffin Hastings at 120 pounds for the Indians. Timothy Yuro won by injury default over Ed Morriarity at 106 pounds and Toms River South won three matches by forfeit.

Shawnee will face second-seeded Cherry Hill West on Wednesday in the semifinals.
