HS ICE HOCKEY: Mayer’s Overtime Goal Lifts Jackson Memorial

Justin Mayer scored in the ninth minute of overtime Tuesday to give the eighth-seeded Jackson Memorial High School hockey team a 4-3 win over Scotch Plains-Fanwood in the first round of the NJSIAA Public A Tournament.

The Jaguars had taken a 3-2 lead with 4:49 left in the third period on a goal by Michael Krzyzewski, but Jared Figueroa scored his third goal of the game for the Raiders to tie the score three minutes later.

Krzyzewski scored two goals, Chris Petrone had a goal and two assists and Justin Mayer had a goal and an assist for Jackson Memorial. Nick Swain and Spencer swain had one assist each for the Jaguars and goalie Matt Pousson made 14 saves.

Jackson Memorial will face ninth-seeded Morris Knolls on Friday in the second round.
