Women’s Commission Celebrates 40th Year

From raising awareness through programs on sexual assault to recognizing the many contributions of women throughout history, the Ocean County Advisory Commission on the Status of Women turns 40 this year. “For four decades, the Women’s Commission has opened doors for women who look for helpful resources,” said Ocean County Freeholder Virginia E. Haines, who serves as liaison to the commission. “The Commission has expanded over the years to help women meet the challenges they face personally and professionally.” Haines was joined by Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari in honoring the work of the Commission during the last four decades. In recognition of its 40th anniversary, the Advisory Commission hosted a celebration to honor the past and present commissioners, advocates, and partners who work to advance the status of women and their families in Ocean County. Former Freeholder Hazel Frank Gluck, who was the first woman to serve as an Ocean County Freeholder was also honored during the celebration. It was under her leadership that the Commission was formed in October 1977.
