BERKELEY TOWNSHIP-Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen Amato and the municipal council passed a resolution at their town meeting this week opposing the effort by the administration of Governor Phil Murphy to have New Jersey become a sanctuary state.
“Berkeley Township will never become a sanctuary city,” Amato and the council stated in the resolution.
“The mayor and township council oppose New Jersey becoming a sanctuary state as New Jersey has some of the highest property taxes in the nation,” Amato said. “TheGovernor of the State of New Jersey and the New Jersey Legislature should be more concerned with reducing spending and property tax reduction for legal residents and taxpayers of New Jersey.”
The measure passed unanimously and copies of the resolution will be sent to state legislators in New Jersey’s 3rd, 9th and 10th districts.
“[We] strongly oppose New Jersey becoming a sanctuary state and urge Governor Murphy and the legislature to reevaluate their position with regard to New Jersey becoming a sanctuary state.”
