ICE: New Jersey Still Not Cooperating, Even with Accused Rapist, Murderer Rios

NEWARK-After the brutal murder of a Carolina Cano in a Jersey City Park, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Newark office criticized Governor Phil Murphy and New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal.

ICE said it will not let the directive by New Jersey’s Democrat leaders further protect Jorge Rios, 33, of Honduras, who is suspected of committing the murder.

The agency said, despite Rios being charged with murder, sexual assault and kidnapping, the state of New Jersey is still not cooperating.

“ICE maintains that cooperation by local law enforcement is an indispensable component of promoting public safety.  ICE Will seek taking custody of Rios-Doblado at the conclusion of his criminal proceedings, despite limited cooperation with the state.”

Attorney General Gurbir Grewal doubled down on his defiance against ICE detainers today stating that neither his office nor New Jersey law enforcement officers enforce civil deportation orders.
