TOMS RIVER-American Legion Post 129 showed off their new Victory Garden along with Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, Mayor Thomas Kelaher, Councilwoman Laurie Huryk and Councilmen Terrance Turnbach and Maurice Hill.
According to Councilman Mo Hill in a statement released on his campaign Facebook page, “In WWI due to the rationing of food, the public was encouraged to plant War Gardens for fresh vegetables. In WWII they became known as Victory Gardens.”
The garden boxes at Post 129 were built with the help of local Boy Scouts and students from OCC.
“The gardeners were assisted by Fulfill’s Master Gardener, Jess Sinkhorn. The food will go to veterans and Fulfill. If you want to volunteer please contact American Legion Post 129 as they are looking for people with a green thumb,” Hill said. “Thanks to the American Legion Post 129, Fulfill of Ocean and Monmouth County, Ocean County College, the Jay and Linda Grunin foundation and the Boy Scouts for making this food supply a reality.”
