Help Eagle Scout candidate who is building a flag retirement box

HOWELL — Jacob is an Eagle Scout candidate with Troop 300. For his Eagle Scout project, he decided to build a flag retirement box, which will be located at Southard Fire Department on Route 9 in Howell.

“I noticed that there wasn’t a local place for people to properly dispose of worn flags. I located this project at the firehouse because of its high-profile location,” he said.

His box will be constructed of metal and purchased from a supplier, but he needs approximately $1,000.

Jacob was initially going to hold a bake sale fundraiser, but Covid-19 threw a wrench into his plans.

To fund his Eagle Scout project, Jacob will now be holding a garage sale fundraiser from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 at his home.

He is asking the local community to donate items for his garage sale fundraiser. Please ensure that items work or are gently used. Please do not donate broken items. All sales will go toward the purchase of the materials and construction of his flag box.

Jacob will begin collecting on Sunday, July 26. To arrange a pickup of your donation or to learn more details, email: grdoviclouise@gmail.com.
