NEWARK, NJ – Chaya Bruck, an Orthodox Jewish woman was flying back to her home in Brooklyn on a Jet Blue flight last week when her 2-year-old daughter didn’t want to keep her face mask on. Bruck tried to keep the mask on the child, but could not. According to Jet Blue, children 2 and under are not required to wear face masks, but that didn’t stop the airline from removing her and her 5 other children from the plane.
“It’s not something we can excuse,” the stewardess said.
“I’ll try my best,” she responded.
The stewardess didn’t sympathize with the mother and was told it was already too late and she and her children were removed. Towards the end of the exchange, most of the plane’s passengers were yelling at the plane’s staff saying that minutes before, in the flight safety briefing, passengers were told children under 2 did not need to wear face masks. Passengers were heard during the exchange saying it wasn’t right to kick the woman and her children off the flight.
Bruck pleaded with the stewardess that she would try to make sure the child kept her mask on and said she paid for 6 tickets and all of her luggage was already on the plane.
She was told she would be given a refund and escorted off the plane.
