Orange Cove Woman Arrested for Killing Brother

ORANGE COVE, CA – Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 62 year old Orlanda Haynes of Orange Cove. She has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on one count of murder. Her bail is set at $1 million. She is accused of killing her brother, 60 year old Sammie Shirley of Orange Cove.  At 9:30 am Saturday, a person who had stopped at the Vista Point along Hwy. 180 in Dunlap saw an object that appeared to be a body lying down the hillside. They made a report to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. The location is about three miles east of Dunlap Road. Deputies arrived and discovered the object was an older gentleman, later identified as Sammie Shirley, who was deceased. He had a severe wound to his neck. Due to the nature of the incident, homicide detectives took over the investigation. As detectives worked to identify Shirley’s family members, they located his sister, Orlanda Haynes. During the course of the investigation, detectives determined Haynes was responsible for killing Shirley.  A motive for this crime is not releasable at this time. This remains an ongoing investigation.
