Georgia Declares Presidential Election Recount as Margin is Only 14,000 Votes

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said today 14,101 votes stand between President Donald J. Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden as 97 counties have reported their results to the state.  Raffensperger said his office is taking reports of voter fraud seriously, including dead voting, felon voting, double voting and out-of-state voting.

“We will continue to enforce the law until every legal vote is counted,” Raffensperger said.

Raffensperger said with that margin being so small, a hand recount will take place in the Presidential election.

“We will work with the counties to get this done in time for our state certification,” he added. “Many of these workers will be working plenty of overtime. We have all worked hard to make sure fair and accurate counting and the will of the voter will reflect in the final count and the voters will have confidence in the process whether their candidate won or lost.”

“We will be counting every single paper, every single lawfully counted ballot,” he added. “This race has national significance and national importance, not just for Georgia but for every single American.”

Raffensperger said the original plan to do a sample recount was not feasible and a full recount by hand was necessary.

“Officials in numerous counties are continuing to count ballots, with strong security protocols in place to protect the integrity of our election,” said Raffensperger earlier in the week. “We have long anticipated – and said publicly – that counting would most likely take place into Wednesday night and perhaps Thursday morning. We’re on pace to accomplish that responsibly, ensuring that the voice of every eligible voter is heard. It’s important to act quickly, but it’s more important to get it right.”

Raffensperger said his state’s election officials and regardless of their political leaning, the process is following the law and he has faith that every county election official wants to make sure that the vote is counted right and that every vote counts regardless of the outcome.
