50 farm animals and a dog perish in Howard County barn fire

WEST FRIENDSHIP, MD –  On December 5, at approximately 7:00 pm, HCDFRS was alerted for a working barn fire in the 13000 block of Frederick Road in West Friendship. The structure was fully involved upon arrival and a defensive operation began.

A large portion of the barn was lost in the fire but crews were able to salvage a two-story section. The fire was placed under control at about 8:30 pm. Fire investigators are working to determine the origin and cause.
No one was injured during the barn fire, however, the loss was significant for the owner as forty sheep, seven pigs, three cows, and a dog are presumed to have perished in the blaze. Three sheep were burned and will be assessed by a vet.
