West Springfield gang task force busts heroin dealers near town common

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA  –  On December 15, 2020 at approximately 1330 hours, members of the West Springfield Police Narcotics Unit, with assistance from the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force arrested the two above individuals without incident at the intersection of Elm Street and Westfield Street.

The arrests were made after a months-long investigation by the West Springfield Police Narcotics Unit, with information a drug transaction would occur at the above location and time.

The investigating detectives observed Michael Scott on foot, pacing back and forth and seemingly on high alert. Mr. Scott then walked over a nearby parking lot and he entered the front passenger seat of the parked target vehicle. Detectives then observed what appeared to be an exchange between the operator and Mr. Scott.

 

Based on the facts of the case and what they believed to be an illegal drug transaction, the officers moved in and made the arrests. The following drugs and evidence was recovered upon the search and inventory of the vehicle.
• 12,186 bags of heroin
• $17,559 cash U.S. Currency
• Taurus Brasil .357 Revolver
• Six .357 Magnum Ammunition
• Digital Scale w/cutting agent

Both subjects were transported to West Springfield Police Headquarters for booking. They are each being held on $50,000 bail. Xavier Montanez lists his address as Westfield, but he had been staying at the Quality Inn in West Springfield.
