Columbus bicyclist killed in hit and run crash

COLUMBUS, OH – On January 9, 2021 at 7:33am, Columbus Police received a call reporting a deceased person lying to the south side of E. Broad St. west of Cardinal Park Dr. Police and medics responded and John Doe, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at 7:40am.

CPD’s Accident Investigation Unit was notified and responded to the scene. Early assessment indicates John Doe was traveling on a bicycle eastbound in the right lane of E. Broad St. west of Cardinal Park Dr. when he was struck from behind by a vehicle.

The driver and vehicle did not remain at the scene. A vehicle of interest was later located and impounded to be analyzed for evidence. A lead on a suspect driver is being followed. John Doe’s identity is withheld pending confirmation and next of kin notification.

To date in 2021, Columbus has had 4 fatal traffic crashes resulting in 4 fatalities. If anyone has any info related to this incident they should contact Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
