Lacey Township Woman Lost $3,500 in Amazon Scam

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – A Lacey woman reported she was scammed by a person impersonating an Amazon employee and is now out $3,500.

On Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 12:02 p.m., Special Officer Dylan Emmett met with a Forked River resident in reference to a fraudulent transaction. The victim reported that she was contacted by a representative of Amazon who told her she was going to receive a refund for her membership. The caller convinced the victim to permit access to her computer and banking information. The caller also encouraged the victim to purchase gift cards to compensate for an overage, which she did. The total loss was $3,500.
