7-year-old accidentally shot herself, expected to survive injury

COLUMBUS, OH – A 7-year-old girl accidentally shot herself and is in the hospital recovering at this time.

Today, at 5:12 am, Columbus Police officers were notified of a drive-up, shooting victim who arrived at a local hospital.

When officers arrived, they met with hospital staff who notified them that the victim was 7 years old and was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim told hospital personnel that she had accidentally shot herself.

Officers notified Assault Squad Detectives who responded to the local hospital and spoke to the individuals who transported the victim to the hospital. After speaking to these individuals, detectives will be treating this incident as an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim was in surgery and is expected to survive her injury.
