Police find pot of gold with leprechaun in undercover pedestrian safety detail

LAS VEGAS, NV – The Las Vegas Police Department conducted a pedestrian safety operation to get drivers to slow down and stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.

Even with a Metro Traffic officer dressed in a bright green leprechaun outfit, drivers continued to disregard pedestrian safety. The undercover officer walked across the road and vehicles that didn’t stop were issued tickets.

“Not even a Metro Traffic officer in a marked crosswalk was safe from drivers speeding and failing to stop for a pedestrian. LVMPD was out today conducting traffic enforcement and reminding drivers to slow down, obey traffic laws, and to look out for people crossing the street,” the Las Vegas Metro Police Department said.

In December, the Nevada legislature increased penalties for drivers who don’t yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Failure to yield now includes penalties of up to $1,000 in fines and up to six months in jail. The detail was conducted on March 16th.
