9-Year-Old Girl Shot in Chest as She Opened Her Front Door

COLUMBUS, OH – A 9-year-old girl thought there were fireworks going on outside her home on South 5th Street. As she opened her front door, she was shot in the chest.

Today, May 5, 2021, at 4:49 pm, Columbus Police Officers were dispatched on the report of someone being shot in the area of 1837 S. 5th St. When officers arrived they found the 9-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper left torso. She was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

The victim stated that she was opening the door when she heard fireworks or gunshots, then something struck her in the chest. The victim didn’t see who was shooting.
