AP: Israel strikes hard against Hamas terror network in Gaza City

GAZA CITY (AP) – Israel launched attacks against the terrorist Hamas organization on Sunday, leading to the destruction and collapse of three buildings and killing 33 people. The attacks were in retaliation to the terror network’s launching of hundreds of rockets against civilian Israeli targets.

As the conflict between Israel and Palestinians increases, the world continues to watch the tit for tat battle escalate.

Israel appears to have stepped up strikes in recent days to inflict as much damage as possible on Hamas as international mediators try to broker a cease-fire. But targeting the group’s leaders could hinder those efforts. A U.S. diplomat is in the region to try to de-escalate tensions, and the U.N. Security Council is set to meet Sunday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said its country was attacked unprovoked and said no country will tolerate such attacks. Netanyahu said Israeli response has targeted the terror infrastructure of Hamas.

“In firing on our cities, Hamas is committing a double war crime,” he said. “In targeting our citizens and hiding behind their citizens, using them as a human shield.”
